Rocky Mountain Journey by Misty M. Beller - A Book Review

  

I have read several of Misty Beller's books, but not the first two books in this series, Sisters of the Rockies. Rocky Mountain Journey worked wonderfully as a stand-alone read. The story will resonate with those who have at some point in their life felt forgotten by God, or who have wondered if He really cares. Those who have never experienced those doubts will still appreciate the soul searching that accompanies them and the joy of discovering God's presence and a life abiding in Him.

This story takes place in 1839 as Faith decides she can wait no longer to do the task her father asked of her on his deathbed, to locate the native woman who once saved his life and to return a family heirloom to her. Faith had no idea of the perils that she would encounter as she set out upon this journey without telling her sisters of her true intentions. The author does a great job with aiding her readers to feel present in the setting, a setting as dangerous as it is beautiful.

A Daughter's Courage by Misty Beller - A Book Review

 

Misty Beller's Brides of Laurent is a delightful series. While historical, it reads with a bit of a fantasy, fairy-tale sort of feel. In my opinion the series will be enjoyed to the fullest by being read in order. A Daughter's Courage, the third book in the series, focuses on Charlotte, the middle child of the village of Laurent's chief. It follows her on her quest to reach Fort Versailles in search of an artisan talented enough to restore an heirloom dear to the hearts of all the villagers, traveling in the Canadian Rockies as winter sets in. This is a story of perseverance, discovery, love, and family, above all its a story of God's love for His children. I highly recommend this book and series.

A Healer's Promise by Misty M.Beller - A Book Review

   

This second book in Misty M. Bellar's Brides of Laurent series is just as delightful as the first. It was such a pleasure to once again visit the hidden community of Laurent in the Canadian Rockies. The themes of not getting ahead of God, but rather waiting on His guidance and timing, and the importance of extending grace and mercy as He has done for us are well-developed in the tale of the community's healer, Audrey Moreau, and Levi Masters, a British intelligence officer. The value of putting others first is also essential to the story. While this is the second book of the series, it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone read.

A Warrior's Heart by Misty M. Beller - A Book Review

   

I am totally hooked on this series, and cannot wait for the second installment. Set in 1814 in the Rocky Mountains of Canada, the story follows female warrior Brielle Durand and US Army spy Evan MacManus. In an effort to protect the village of Laurent, Brielle takes Evan captive, but will he end up being the invader or the protector of Laurent? Will Evan decide to rely on his own strength and reasoning, or is there someone else on whom he can safely rely? Readers will greatly enjoy discovering the answers to these questions.

Misty M. Beller has a unique voice within the genre of historical fiction. She creates strong protagonists through allowing their vulnerabilities to show alongside their strengths. She squarely places her readers within the stunning beauty as well as the harsh realities of life in the mountains, shoulder to shoulder with her characters. Love's Mountain Quest by Misty M. Beller - A Book Review

   

Love's Mountain Quest is the second book in Misty Beller's Hearts of Montana series. As often happens in series the main characters had been secondary characters in the first book. Joanna Watson is a widow with a young, high-spirited son, a single-mother trying to earn a living and make a home. Isaac Bowen assisted her on her journey to Settler's Fort after her husband's death. He is a quiet mountain man with a past. Together they must search for Joanna's missing son and friend. Beller tells the story of how their relationship changes during this quest while also following the harrowing tale of the kidnapped son and friend. I loved the plot, the action, the character development, the sensory images, and the inspirational message. I must admit however, that each time the characters mentioned feeling comfortable or confident in their own skin, I cringed just a bit due to what seemed out-of-era language. This would not keep me from recommending this book though; I thought it was a wonderful read, and am looking forward to the third book. Hope's Highest Mountain by Misty M. Beller - A Book Review

   

Hope's Highest Mountain is not only a story of hope midst pain and sadness, it is a story of strength, an inner strength forged through reliance on God. While most of us will never face the challenges faced by Ingrid Chastain as she traveled through the wilderness of Montana seeking to deliver vials of life-saving medicine, we will each encounter times when we need the sustaining strength that comes through trusting and relying on God. This story will inspire those seeking such strength.

Hope's Highest Mountain is well written. Beller paints beautiful mental images of Montana's mountain grandeur that invite feelings of fear and awe. She engages all of the reader's senses: the taste of simple trail fare, the iciness of wading through deep snow, the warmth of snuggling beneath heavy furs, the sounds of the forest, and the smell of sickness. I highly recommend this book and am grateful to have received a copy from Bethany House via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
